Over the past year, Kaibigan ng Lahaina has been working to identify and address the needs of the Filipino and immigrant communities affected by the August 8, 2023 wildfires that devastated West Maui. Through conversations with neighbors, family, and friends, we have come to understand that the experiences and challenges within the Filipino community are diverse. As time passes since the disaster, we are noticing that the disparities within the community are widening, presenting new challenges for many Filipino families in their recovery.

This report offers a snapshot and representation of of the expected over 4,000 Filipino community members impacted. Its purpose is to provide current information about our community to help shape policies, programs, and recovery funding that better address the needs of our people.

We anticipate more assessments will need to be conducted and expect to renew this data as the challenges and needs of the community evolve.
